Lead by a double, gold medal performance by SoHi junior Sadie Fox, the Soldotna girls Nordic ski team captured the Region III Nordic Ski Championship girls team title.
Region III Girls Championships: Results
Fox won both individual events on the Tsaleshi Trails; outracing the field Friday in the girls’ 5-kilometer freestyle and winning by over a minute, posting a time of 15:05. Fox doubled-up with a Saturday run through the classic style 5-K in 18:19. Fox claims her first Region III Skimeister Award. SoHi’s Hannah Potash recorded a second in the freestyle and a fourth in the classic race. Fox, Potash, Olivia Hutchins, Dani McCormick, Emiy Warner, Molly Erickson and Xochi Harbison comprised SoHi’s championship team.
Grace Christian School’s Daniel Serventi lead the Grizzlies to the boys championship, winning both boys races.

SoHi’s Levi Micheal was the top peninsula finisher placing fifth overall in the two-day competition. Kenai’s Travis Cooper finished seventh overall.
On Friday, Travis Cooper finished second in the 5-K freestyle,; Levi Micheal, fifth; and Skyview’s Brenner Musgrave, tenth. Micheal and Cooper placed sixth and seventh in the mass start classic event.
ASAA 2014 Nordic Ski Championships
All skiers are eligible for the state Nordic skiing championships.
The ASAA 2014 Nordic Ski Championships are scheduled for Kincaid Park in Anchorage on February 21-23. The championships may change venues is snow and trail conditions do not improve.
