The Soldotna Stars football program continues to roll recording the SoHi program’s 16th-straight Northern Lights Conference football championship, an eighth-straight regular season victory for 2022, and a home Division II playoff game next Friday at Soldotna High School.

The Stars, #1 NLC, will host North Pole, #2 Railbelt, in the first-round of the ASAA Division II football playoffs on Friday, October 7th at 4 p.m. at Justin Maile Field.

( SoHi defeated North Pole 60-6 in week one of the regular season in Fairbanks)

SoHi 49 – Eagle River 13

The Stars claimed the 2022 NLC football championship and locked-in North Pole as SoHi’s opponent in the first-round of the state playoffs with a 49-13 dismantling of the Wolves on Saturday at Soldotna High School.

SoHi opened with a scoring drive of 69 yards capped by a 15-yard touchdown run for quarterback Zac Buckbee.  Eagle River, on its first drive, pushed the ball to the SoHi 1-yard line and were turned-away on 4th and 1 by the SoHi defense.  The Stars offense instantly responded with a 95-yard touchdown run by fullback Gehret Medcoff and the Stars controlled play for the remainder of the game.

SoHi built a 42-7 lead at the half; neither team scored in the third quarter and both teams added touchdowns in the final quarter.  The SoHi starting defense allowed one touchdown in the first half with a deflected, nearly intercepted, 4th-down pass fell in the hands of Wolves receiver Kaleb Sherman.
